One of Ontario’s hidden gems is also a foodie’s dream! The village of Schomberg is tucked in a corner of the King Township. With a selection of shops, eateries, and historic buildings, this quaint village will win you over with its charm. Plus, thanks to its convenient location off Highway 27, Schomberg is the perfect day trip from Toronto. The Schomberg Pub
Set in a heritage home, The Schomberg Pub is one of the best and most Instagrammable restaurants in Schomberg!
The pub resides a stunning Victorian home that dates back over 100 years, where the area’s doctor lived. Even the original name of the pub, ‘Dr. Dillanes Pub,’ paid homage to its former owner.
Inside you’ll find an assortment of rooms, each with their own style and ambiance. My favourite room is full of character, as though it was ripped from the pages of Alice in Wonderland. The wallpaper has a whimsical flower pattern and hanging on the wall are a few friendly animal faces decked out in specs.
At the back of the pub is a cozy bar that is reminiscent of an old western. With its exposed wood beams and ceiling covered in coasters, you’ll want to pull up a seat and stay awhile. And in the summer, right off the bar room is one of the best patios in York Region! Wrapping around a towering tree and overlooking the Schomberg River, it’ll keep you coming back again and again!
The Schomberg Pub menu has a mix of classic pub fare and trendy dishes. Along with a great selection of beers, diners will find something for everyone in the family, even the littles. A few favourites include their Schomburger, pierogis, and fish tacos.

Craft Kitchen & Beer Bar
Are you looking for a stylish place to enjoy dinner and drinks? Then head over to Craft Kitchen & Beer Bar. This upscale bar and restaurant has a sleek design as well as a fun and welcoming staff.
Craft Kitchen is all about farm to table meals. Using fresh local ingredients, every bite is a taste explosion! The menu serves up a mix of shareable plates, salads, and sandwiches. However, Craft Kitchen is best known for their out-of-this-world oysters!
A few other great options are their wagyu burger, garlic fries, and market boards. Along with a meat & cheese board, there’s a steak board and a vegetarian board. Plus, they’ve got a fabulous brunch menu too!
This place blows it out of the park with food, but they are also a master when it comes to cocktails! Their drink list includes craft beer, champagne, and non-alcoholic beverages. If you’re can’t decide on a beer, then order up one of their flights! With four 5oz. tasters, you’ll for sure find the one!
Their mastery lies in their handcrafted cocktails. The cocktail menu is full of fun drinks. A few favourites include the spiced pear mule, fresh prince, and figgy smalls. My top pick is the strawberry rhubarb gin smash!
For those visiting in the fair weather, pull up a seat on their main street patio. It’s like a meal and a show as you watch the buzz of downtown Schomberg.

Port Soirée
If you’re looking for restaurants in Schomberg where you can enjoy a fine dining experience, Port Soirée is it! It’s ideal for those looking for somewhere to celebrate a special occasion, or just want an exceptional meal.
Port Soirée is owned and operated by Alvaro Nascimento. While originally from Portugal, he’s lived in the area for a long time. The restaurant serves an exceptional farm to table menu that’s inspired by the flavours of Europe. As a restauranteur and farm owner, Alvaro is passionate about using the freshest ingredients.
The menu is diverse and includes incredible wine pairings from their award-winning selection from around the world. Plus, all of their vegetables come from their private garden or are sourced from local farmers. Best known for their Portuguese Seafood Mix, a few other top dishes include their rack of lamb and wild mushroom risotto.
While Port Soirée is a fine dining restaurant, the atmosphere is casual and relaxed. Inside you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to Europe. It exudes warmth and old world charm. Plus, many of the art pieces are from the artistic hands of the owner, Alvaro Nascimento.

Hollywood Pizza
Lights, camera, action! The newest pizzeria on Main Street Schomberg is Hollywood Pizza! This fun, family-owned pizza joint is their second location.
Hollywood is not only in the name! This movie-themed pizza shop channels country and western throwbacks with its décor. On the walls you’ll find posters of Johnny Cash, The Good, the Bad & the Ugly, and John Wayne.
The movie theme doesn’t end there! Their line up of pizzas, made with handmade dough, are even named after movies. A few great ones include The Usual Suspects, Hawaii Five-0, and Chicken Little. However, my top pick is the Greek Tycoon. It’s topped with black and green olives, tomatoes, onion, and feta.
Along with pizza, they have wings, break sticks, and more. Plus, they have epic combos with a variety of options. And fun names too, like Animal House, King Kong, and Three’s Company.
If you can’t find a pizza to meet your desires, that’s where their motto “Build Your Blockbuster” comes in! They can easily customize the perfect pizza for you!

Leonardo’s Pizzeria & Smokehouse
Another main street staple is Leonardo’s Pizzeria & Smokehouse. For over 40 years, Leonardo’s continues to dish out some of the best pizza in Schomberg. While the previous owner has moved on, the new owners, a father and son duo, are just as committed to carrying on the tradition.
Leonardo’s Pizzeria & Smokehouse serves up so much more than pizza. On the menu you’ll find a long list of quality food like smoked meats, sandwiches, blooming onions, and more! Plus, they smoke all their meats in house!
They have a variety of pizzas on the menu, everything from classics to specialty ones. A favourite is their Schomberger with ground chuck, smoked wild boar bacon strips, mushrooms and cheddar. If you’re craving a sandwich, order up the 5 oz Montreal smoked meat sandwich. It’s stacked high and so tender! Plus, they run weekly specials that you’ll want to keep an eye out for.
Another wonderful reason to eat at Leonardo’s Pizzeria & Smokehouse is that they are very community driven. They participate in a variety of local programs to benefit schools, the food bank, and more. It’s always great knowing your money is helping others.

307 On Main Café
In an adorable white house on Main Street, you’ll find a Schomberg gastronomical gem!
307 On Main Café brings the tastes of Italy to this charming small town. Owned and operated by a wonderful mother and daughter duo with Italian roots.
Inside you’ll find a cozy little seating area as well as a market space. The selves are lined with some of the best imports straight from Italy! There’s everything from pasta to desserts as well as spices and sauces. Plus, they’ve got Nutella straight from the source!
Fun Fact: Did you know that our beloved Nutella was first made in Piedmont, Italy?
Along with a menu for dine in, they also provide catering, do custom cakes, and have some of the best baked goods in the area! A few must haves to bring home (if they make it that far!) are their pistachio croissants and macarons.
Dining in, you’ll find a tasty selection of food made fresh daily. They have the freshest and best soups and sandwiches around! Along with their minestrone, you’ve got to try their lemon chicken soup. This twist on chicken soup brings fresh meat, no cream, and the punch of lemon bring to the next level!
As one of the best cafes in Schomberg, you’ve got to visit 307 On Main Café. And if you only get one thing, I highly recommend the freshly baked pistachio cake. With a light and airy inside as well as the perfect crisp crust, its one of the slices of cake I’ve EVER had!

The Grackle Coffee Company
From the moment I first caught sight of The Grackle Coffee Company I knew I’d love it! With its sunny exterior and quirky interior, I was hooked! If you love the weird and unusual then hopefully you can grab a seat at Grackle!
Inside you’ll find more colour that will brighten anyone’s day. On the walls are a number of pieces by local artists. Plus, it’s all about mix matched furniture here. There’s even an old dentist’s chair to sit in! And to pay homage to their namesake, you’ll find plenty of grackle-related pieces.
The Grackle Coffee Company first opened its doors in 2006 and is all about supporting fellow local companies. Their fair trade, organic coffee is sourced from Dark City Coffee in Scarborough. Some of their delicious baked goods come from Wanda’s Pie in the Sky in Toronto. Others are from Get Baked in Guelph or The Cookie Duchess in Schomberg. Even their milk is sourced locally from Millers Dairy in Creemore.
Along with a long list of awesome baked goods and sweets, their menu includes a variety of soups and sandwiches. All of which are made from scratch with vegetarian options! I highly recommend you pair their organic sourdough sandwich with a mug of coffee. Plus, don’t forget to grab a couple of their treats. Two of my favourites are their butter tarts and raspberry tarts.

The Schomberg Taste of Main Culinary Event
While any time is a great time to visit Schomberg, a prime time to go is during their Taste of Main event. Many of the main street restaurants in Schomberg take part in the bi-annual event.
The winter Taste of Main in Schomberg is on now! It runs from February 18th to March 5th, 2023. And the following one will be running in late summer, early fall.
Visitors will find a variety of places to eat, there’s everything from cute cafes to stunning restaurants. Plus, there are options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. At each of the restaurants diners will find a prefix menu you choose from. In addition, many of them create a signature cocktail to celebrate the event!
The hard part will be choosing which restaurant to enjoy first! I recommend making a day of it! Start off with breakfast and a coffee and browse the main street shops in between meals!
So, if you’re looking for the perfect day trip from the city that will cure your hunger, visit Schomberg! With so many incredible restaurants in Schomberg, there’s something on the menu for everyone!
