JJ’s Chip Wagon
One of the best Simcoe County food trucks is JJ’s Chip Wagon. And this isn’t just our option, they’ve been awarded readers’ choice on many fronts, from best food truck to best fries and more! You can find JJ’s Chip Wagon just outside downtown Alliston, on the left side of Highway 89 heading west, in the Alliston Auto Centre parking lot.
While the convenient location may draw you in, the food will have you returning! JJ’s Chip Wagon is known for their homemade burgers, beer battered fish and awesome Newfie specialties. If you’re looking for some fun fries options you should try their Off the Rock Fries that come with gravy and ground beef. They also routinely do collaborations with other local businesses to bring you a smash up of the two. Like the Wild Boar Chorizo Fundido Fries in partnership with Taqueria El Norte, a Mexican restaurant in downtown Alliston.

Queen’s Poutine
One of the crowd favourites when it comes to food trucks in Simcoe County is Queen’s Poutine. It all started over eight years ago when she first opened her booth at the 400 Flea Market. It was a success! So, a few years later she opened up a food truck in the Canadian Tire parking lot in Alcona. Bringing poutines to the locals and summer crowds is a passion for owner and operator Lisa. Though she says she’s not the Queen behind Queen’s Poutine, the poutines are!
You’ll find over ten different poutine varieties at Queen’s Poutine. There is a poutine for everyone’s cravings, from spicy buffalo to deep-friend pickle and our favourite the Newfie Poutine! Her menu has grown over the years. She’s also serving up six different homemade burgers and pogos, funnel cakes and more! And she hasn’t forgotten the non-meat eaters. There is vegetarian gravy and vegetarian burgers too!

CiaoChowCiao
For foodie looking to chow down you’ll want to try CiaoChowCiao! Located along Highway 12, it’s a great stop whether you’re coming into or out of Orillia. Along with the food truck you’ll also find a Pizza Forno on site. These robotic pizza kiosks are popping up all over and offer fresh pizza ready in minutes and because it’s all machine operated they’re open twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week.
CiaoChowCiao has a great mix of food offerings. They have fresh cut fries, poutines with real cheese curds, vegan burgers, grilled cheese and so much more! One of our favourite options is their epic Chilli Cheese Fries – think loaded nachos but on French fries instead. You’re going to want to come hungry or share as the portion sizes are huge! While there are no picnic benches there are a bunch of great large rocks in the parking lot that make for the perfect seat to chow down on your food!

The Fry’s the Limit
One of the best poutine in Simcoe County can be found at The Fry’s the Limit food truck in Thornton. This charming small town just south of Barrie is known as the ice cream hot spot in the county. With a bunch of places to grab a cone, Thornton is an ideal road trip stop on your way north along Highway 27. But before you grab dessert be sure to visit The Fry’s the Limit first.
A fabulous husband and wife duo have two of the best places to eat in Thornton, The Parlour and The Fry’s the Limit. Tucked beside bold and bring The Parlour ice cream shop you’ll find the food truck. Famous for their incredible poutines that are made with real Quebec cheese curds and proper gravy, they also have some other tasty options. They also have a range of different kinds of hot dogs as well as chicken tenders. For those looking for gluten free gravy, don’t worry he has you covered too!

Around the World in 80 Tacos
If you’re looking for great places to eat in Barrie then a great option is Around the World in 80 Tacos. Move on over food trucks that only sell fries and burgers, let’s taco-bout tacos! The owner and chef behind this fun and unique food truck has been a chef for over 20 years and wanted to create something different. Around the World in 80 Tacos is easily one of the best food trucks in Barrie.
Around the World in 80 Tacos serves up incredible gourmet tacos that are inspired from destinations around the globe. You’ll find everything from fresh and fabulous Greek Tacos to tasty Korean Beef Tacos. Every day the options change, though favourites are usually always available. And if you have a sweet tooth they have you covered too! French’s
It wouldn’t be a list of Simcoe County’s best food trucks without French’s in Orillia! While not your traditional food truck, French’s food stand has been a staple in the county for over 100 years. George French had the grand idea to place a food stand right beside the railroad for workers to grab food. Even though the rail doesn’t pass through anymore French’s still stands and is still feeding the people of Orillia and tourists alike.
You can’t miss the ketchup and mustard coloured stand across from Couchiching Beach Park. With a perfect location it’s an ideal spot for boaters, beach goers or those strolling the trails in search of fuel. After all these years and four generations later the menu has evolved but their most popular items are still their fries and hand scooped milk shakes. You’ll find everything from burgers to sandwiches as well as fish and chips and more.
French’s is typically open from the May long weekend through Labour Day. So, if you want to eat at one of the oldest hotdog stands in Canada then head to French’s where local legends like Gordon Lightfoot, Brian Orser and Stephen Leacock have also eaten.

With a name like Freddie’s Dam Good Fries you know they mean it! If you’re looking for one of the best fry trucks in service in Simcoe County then head to Springwater. Located along scenic Highway 93 at the corner of Cassell Drive you’ll find Freddie’s Dam Good Fries in a large lot that makes for a great food stop.

Patti Wagon
What if I told you that you didn’t have to wait until summer to visit a food truck? Meet the Patti Wagon! Located in Tudhope Park in Orillia you’ll find a year-round food stand that is perfect for both summer tourists and snowmobilers passing by. Kiki’s Funnel Cakes
One of the best desserts to indulge in during the summer, other than ice cream, is funnel cakes. If you’re craving a funnel cake and can’t make it to Canada’s Wonderland or a local fair then head to Collingwood. There are a ton of great restaurants in Collingwood but if you want a treat afterwards then pop over to Kiki’s Funnel Cakes FUN Fair Food Truck! The original shop was at the Bramalea City Centre Mall in Brampton but owner, Kim Nolet has been satisfying the sweet tooth of many in Collingwood since 2016!
In spite of being told that her business wouldn’t turn a profit, Kim created Kiki’s Funnel Cakes. Everyone always loved her special recipe and she wanted to prove to her daughter that if you put your mind to it, you can do anything. Kiki’s Funnel Cakes has been named Best Funnel Cakes since 2013 so you know you’re going to love them. Beyond funnel cakes they offer burgers, tornado potatoes, fries and more! She’s open spring through fall in the Canadian Tire parking lot and accepts debit, credit and cash.

Black Boxes Food Truck – Craving something different? Then head to Black Boxes Food Truck located at the Bridge Port Marina in Orillia. Along with traditional items like fries and pogos you can also try pierogis, pulled pork and trout sandwiches and more.
Reel Em In Fish & Chips – For another fantastic food truck serving up fish and chips head to Reel Em In Fish & Chips. Located in Barrie, off of Burton Avenue across from the Giant Tiger, they serve up a variety of fish and seafood fare as well as sides like deep fried pickles, deep fried mac n cheese and so much more. They also offer gluten free options.
Clarence’s Classics – If you’re looking for a food truck in the Midland area pop into the Canadian Tire parking lot where you’ll find Clarence’s Classics. They have all the classics and a few with a twist like the Midland Burger. It’s a peppercorn cheeseburger topped with onion rings! Also on the menu is fish and chips, chicken burger, sausages and more.
Hungry Voyageur – Another fun food truck in Simcoe County that has a few unique menu items is Hungry Voyageur. You can find them along Highway 12 near Waubaushene. Along with the favourites like you’ll find a few interesting options. They have a variety of venison options as well as some unique poutines like Bourbon Pulled Pork and Wanna Tijuana that comes with salsa, avocado, chipotle and sour cream.

But there are a bunch of unknowns when it comes to visiting food trucks. So, we’ve compiled a handy list of food truck tips to help you, including everything from where to find them and things to know before you go.
When Are They Open – The biggest question when it comes to food trucks is when are they open. They are usually seasonal and generally open from the May long weekend through September. Though every food truck has their own specific open and closing dates. A great place to find out is through their social media, if they don’t have a website.
How to Find a Food Truck – Another popular issue is how do you find a food truck? Some long term food trucks and food stands can be found on Google. But when travelling around there are a few ways to find a food truck nearby. Many Canadian Tire locations and other large big box store parking lots usually have a food truck in the summer. Also, consider chatting up locals! Locals always have the scoop on the best food trucks in the area.
Be Flexible – One thing to know about food trucks is that sometimes things pop up and cause closures. Many food trucks are owned and operated by one or two people and if one is sick or there is an emergency then they can’t open. So, being flexible when visiting food trucks is a must. If the one you want to eat at isn’t open then try another.
Call Ahead – Sometimes food trucks don’t have websites or aren’t active on social media but they usually always have a phone number. Whether you are unsure if they are open or want to order before you go, try to contact the food truck. Calling ahead also helps to find out if they are closing early or have something to fit your dietary needs.
