Dunlop Street Diner

With a classic vintage diner vibe, one of the best breakfasts in Barrie is at Dunlop Street Diner. This downtown diner pays homage to the city’s past with photos of Barrie from 100 years ago.

Dunlop Street Diner serves up an excellent classic diner breakfast along with exciting new variations. I couldn’t resist their traditional eggs, bacon and home fries. The portion size is spot on and so is the coffee!

Other typical breakfast and brunch dishes on the menu include eggs benedict and omelettes. However, they are best known for their egg’s bennies! A few diner favourites are the Off-The-Hook, with smoked salmon and feta cheese, as well as the Namaste, with house-made guacamole, sourdough and cherry tomato.

The menu also has a number of vegetarian and gluten free options, so there’s something for everyone! Plus, their bread is made from scratch, in house and amazing!

Local tip: Visit before 9am during the week to take advantage of their early bird special!

If you’re looking for a solid all day breakfast in Barrie, visit Jack’s Pancake Factory! Not only is breakfast served all day but they make some of the best pancakes in Barrie! Light, fluffy and topped with berries or made with fun additions like smarties.

The breakfast menu at Jack’s Pancake Factory covers all the classics with a variety of interesting options. They have pancakes, French toast, omelettes, skillets, as well as light and healthy breakfasts. My go-to is their classic three eggs, home fries, and toast with bacon, sausage or ham. Another popular dish is their spicy omelette that’s filled with spicy sausage, onions, hot peppers, cheddar cheese and home fries.

They also serve one of the cheapest breakfasts in Barrie! If you visit during the week, Monday to Friday, between 6:30 to 9:30 am, there’s a breakfast special for only $5.99!

With friendly staff and a warm, inviting space, breakfast at Jack’s is a great way to start your day!

Local tip: For those who qualify, ask for the senior’s special if you are visiting outside of the weekday breakfast special hours.

Noted as one of the best restaurants in Barrie, The Farmhouse serves a delectable brunch menu on weekends. Every Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 2pm you can enjoy one of the best brunches in Barrie!

The Farmhouse restaurant is set within a stunning over 100-year-old Victorian building along the lakeshore. Their menu is a lineup of diverse Canadian fare. For weekend brunch patrons will find all the favourites along with some quirky bennies. One of the popular picks is their dill pickle brined fried chicken eggs benny that’s made with house made pickles!

With bread from one of the top Barrie bakeries, Fox’s, and maple syrup from Feltis, the Farmhouse is all about local and fresh ingredients! You’ll also want to order one of their freshly squeezed juices. Or you can opt for a breakfast cocktail. They have a number to choose from, including mimosas that come in single or flights.

Local tip: I highly recommend making a reservation so you get in on the weekend as it can get very busy, especially in the summer.

The most Instagrammable breakfast spot in Barrie is Evvia! Located in Park Place, in Barrie’s south end, Evvia Breakfast & Lunch offers a dreamy experience as soon as you walk in. With pale sky-blue banquets paired with warm fuchsia seats and tables with striking veining, it’s a beautiful space. The cherry on top is the addition of cherry blossom trees found throughout, giving it permanent spring vibes!

It’s not just the space that’s pretty, so is the food! Evvia serves up next level plating with a stunning display of your food that makes it almost too pretty to eat! However, eat you shall! The food is flavourful and incredibly fresh!

Everything on the menu is made fresh and preservative free. Plus, there are a bunch of vegan options! Menu items include Vegan Crab Cake Benedict, Eggs, Tomatoes & Avocados, and Vegan Sausage Breakfast Muffin. Some dishes have breakfast special pricing during the week, before 8:30am.

I was blown away by my Maple Waffles that came topped with fresh blueberries, strawberries, banana and pure Canadian maple syrup. And it came beautifully decorated with a rose head on top!

Evvia is the perfect place to bring your mom or girlfriends for brunch! In addition to having excellent coffee, they serve a number of brunch classic cocktails like mimosas.

Whether you’re looking for a great spot to bring your mom or girlfriends, Common Good Café will fit the bill! Order up a cup of Propeller coffee that’s roasted in Toronto and browse the menu. The menu features elevated classics along with intriguing combinations.

My favourite is their French Toast that’s made with sourdough and topped with fresh berries. Another beloved brunch menu item is their Benny. Its poached eggs are accompanied by sweet potato rosti, black bean salsa, avocado, chipotle crema and microgreens.

Health fans will love the variety of options, including smoothies! Plus, the menu offers vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free choices too!

For 25 years The Breakfast House has been a staple in Barrie! Located on the Golden Mile, aka Bayfield Street, it’s almost hidden among the endless restaurants. Once you find it and go, you’ll return again and again!

The Breakfast House has a menu with all the favourite morning dishes like pancakes to eggs benedict. They also have solid breakfast options like a hungry man breakfast that comes with all the fixings including a 6 oz. New York striploin. You can also order a build your own omelette or their signature hash. Plus, dining in means bottomless coffee!

I love their waffles as well as their incredible homemade strawberry jam! Other fan favourites are their chocolate caramel banana pancakes and spinach Florentine omelette.

Midway Diner

Established in 1962, Midway Diner is known as the greasy spoon of Barrie. For over 60, this classic little retro diner has been a hotspot. With red and blue banquet seating, black and white tiled floor, and bright yellow walls, it’s a throw back to the good ole days!

This beloved Barrie breakfast spot has a menu with all the standard items like breakfast sandwiches and eggs and bacon. All breakfasts come with a choice of home fries or fried mash. They are known for having some of the best home fries in Barrie!

Midway Diner also has a breakfast poutine and a great diablo omelette with chorizo, green peppers, onion and cheese. Plus, if you’re looking for something light, you have the choice of a half or full order of pancakes and French toast!

Local tip: This retro diner is so old school they only accept cash but there is an ATM on-site.

I’ve been a patron of this family’s great cooking since before they ran Little D’s Family Restaurant! This wonderful Greek family knows how to cook and makes the best baklava! Inside the walls are adorned with images celebrating their Greek roots.

Little D’s truly is a family restaurant, with mom and pop working the kitchen along with their daughters taking the orders. You’ll also find one of the best all day breakfasts in Barrie at Little D’! With generous portions and friendly service, there’s a good reason it’s a popular spot.

My go-to is always their classic breakfast with sunny side up eggs, bacon, home fries and toast!

I love their golden Belgian waffles and infamous flapjacks! Plus, you can choose to top your flapjacks with raspberry, chocolate chips, blueberry, banana, or caramel. There’s something for everyone on the menu, including a number of vegetarian options.

Marty’s Coffee Bistro – This little gem of a café on Cundles serves a great cup of coffee. In addition, Marty’s is an ideal spot to find a light budget breakfast in Barrie! While unassuming with its strip mall location, they make a tasty BLT.

Fil’s Café – One of Barrie’s hidden gems, known by long time locals, has been a staple in the community for 40 years. This quirky café is packed full of interesting odds and ends. The walls are covered in photos and antiques, while a stuffed puffer fish hangs from the ceiling. But you can always expect good food, budget-friendly prices and a fun quip from the owner Fil!

Debb’s Place – Another classic spot for breakfast is Debb’s Place in Barrie’s south end. Inside you’ll find a spacious, warm and cozy space that’s ideal for big families. Portion sizes are huge and their home fries are incredible! And be sure to check to see their daily specials for a great deal.

Chavo Crepes – If you’re looking for something different from breakfast head to downtown Barrie. Here you’ll find Chavo Crepes, a small modern café that serves sweet and savoury crepes. I love their strawberry crepe! It’s packed full of berries and the crepe just melts in your mouth. ~ UPDATE: Chavo Crepes is now closed.

  1. Chavo’s sadly is no more.

    One of the best in the city and now gone. Replace by another Mexican place. I’m sure it’s good… but we only had ONE Chavo… all ingredients fresh made…from the sauces to the roast Turkey and micro greens.
